Tournament of Defense is All For One Fencing’s signature historical fencing tournament, bringing together fighters, clubs, and spectators for a weekend of thrilling steel, strategy, and sportsmanship.

This multi-weapon event celebrates the art of historical European swordplay through competitive bouts, martial classes, and community-driven fencing. Competitors will test their skill across multiple disciplines including Single Rapier, Rapier & Dagger, Team Rapier, Smallsword, and Sabre, showcasing both classical technique and modern competitive intensity.

Hosted by All For One Fencing (AFO) in Houston, Texas, the Tournament of Defense welcomes experienced fighters, new competitors, and curious spectators alike. In addition to the tournament brackets, attendees can enjoy guest instructor classes, weapon-specific workshops, and opportunities to connect with fencing clubs from across the region.

International Judging Rules & Rapier Seminar

Tournament of Defense – Official Training Event

Join us for a focused day of instruction dedicated to mastering the International Technical Rules System used in the Tournament of Defense.

This seminar is designed for fencers, aspiring judges, and instructors who want to deepen their understanding of competitive rapier fencing while learning how to make accurate and consistent judging calls.

Participants will train through a combination of rule study, live judging practicums, and tactical fencing instruction, including a specialized “Hit Without Being Hit” rapier clinic.

By the end of the seminar, attendees will gain practical experience applying the rules in real-time scenarios and develop the confidence required to judge high-level bouts.

What You’ll Learn

  • The International Rules System used in Tournament of Defense competitions

  • How to recognize and judge clean, technical fencing exchanges

  • Strategies to prevent and evaluate double hits

  • Practical judging experience through live bout analysis

Certification Opportunity

Participants will work toward Judge Certification recognized by Italian USAcli, enabling certified judges to officiate at the Tournament of Defense and other affiliated events.
